i have this nasty suspicion that this attitude is more than anything about reclaiming Holier-Than-Thou-ness eater.com/23274496/veggie-burg

look i don't get an opinion here because i'm not putting in the effort, and it's not so applicable when asking for Veggie Patties... but there's a sketchy amount of "oh i don't do fake meat, vegetarianism is really about eating more things like <dish with much more demanding storage / prep / cleanup requirements>" out there

@maya checking in as a taco bell vegetarian for over a decade.

also: i miss black bean burgers as the default substitution at most restaurants. rarely an upcharge for that, but beyond/impossible are almost always $1-2 extra.

food

@autumn oh yeah, fuck upcharges, hate that shit. it's sooooo clear about "if you were trying to tell yourself that this beef option might be on the more ethical side, let me remove all doubt: we bought meat so cheap that it definitely isn't".

food

@maya as a former vegan/current vegetarian for like 10+yrs: i mostly avoided meat substitutes years ago because they were GROSS! tofu as a hotdog? No thanks, id rather just eat tofu as tofu. veggie burgers are *okay* but there’s space for more substitutes like beyond meat and i personally welcome it and crave some variety. i’ve been eating “sausages” again!!! and theyre actually good!!!

food

@cinni i have been having very little luck dragging my fiance away from the "there must be a hunk of meat on the plate or I have not eaten a meal" mindset, but the weekend breakfast fry up has been Beyond Sausage only for a long time now and it's fantastic. i want what the germans have lol vox.com/future-perfect/2327333
